A calendar page for the month of February celebrating International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
To represent such a progressive day of the year, my goal was to steer clear of obviously gendered and stereotypically feminine design choices. Although this layout received the expected rounds of critique and revision, the original idea failed to gain footing, even as the project progressed. Eventually I switched to a different concept altogether, and thankfully reception was positive after the adjustment. The final calendar page uses actual elements from the periodic table to spell out “February”, and the days of the week are lined up along the buttons of the minimalistic lab coat, with Sunday landing on the black buttons. It includes a paragraph about the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, a credit to the single typeface used throughout (colophon), and a space for notes.
